No one ever told me that growing up
meant racing to the middle from the top.
And a life well lived is just a life that's lived
without trying to be something that you're not.
And maybe it's cause we don't talk about it,
but I miss when I was fun.
I wanna do more things because I care about them.
I wanna tell more people that I care about them.
And from this side thirty looks a lot less like dying
than it did when I was eighteen.
And I can't help but thinking I was overrated
by that stupid high school scene.
And maybe it's cause we don't talk about it,
but it feels like not much changed.
I still drink too much on the weekends.
And I'm still bad at keeping up with my friends.
I always figured the girl of my dreams would more than likely
just be a girl in my dreams.
Cause I'm no Casanova and I can't quite get over
this social anxiety.
And maybe it's cause we don't talk about it,
but I was scared that you'd pick him.
But you loved me even though I was broken.
Now I'm dreaming with both eyes open.
It's funny how a something like a Thursday morning
can rip your world in two.
The silence where a heartbeat was supposed to be
filled up that little room.
And maybe it's cause we don't talk about it,
but that's a special kind of alone
Sitting with you in a dark room.
But the light shines brighter in a dark room.
There's a lot to be said for these second chances,
I guess miracles don't come free.
And when I look in his eyes when he's looking at me
you know I can barely breathe.
And maybe it's cause we don't talk about it,
but I'm so scared he'll be like me.
Cause I can see myself in my son's face.
But then I see God smile in my son's face.
